Know one parent who loved it and another that pulled their kids in 5th saying it went downhill.

NP. We are considering Marshall Road for K next year. Any input on your experiences there, especially for the early grades, would be really helpful. Thanks a lot.

Bump for Marshall Road input! We are starting their next year too.

Could I suggest that you go to one of the PTA meetings. There is one coming up soon. That would put you in touch with other parents who have kids there and the principal usually speaks. If you had more questions, you could ask the principal afterwards. http://marshallroadpta.org/

We are in that zone, but moved here when one was going into MS and the other was already assigned to an AAP center (Mosby Woods) for the kids who are in the MRES zone. Most of our neighbors have kids who either went there 20+ yrs ago or the kids are in HS now. So, I don't have a lot of data points for the current review of MRES.

I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you came to the ice cream social and there will probably be a lot of families attending (more than a regular PTA mtg). That could be a gold mine of getting current parents' opinions and experiences.

It's alarming how Marshall Road Elementary continues to be open. They offer the lowest quality of education in the area (in parallel to Cunningham Park but Marshall Road, in reality, is in worse condition because the neighbor income per family is significantly higher). The administration is very unprofessional. The principle highers new teachers so she can control them. Most teachers there wear many hats, one day they are LD teachers the next day they are regular classroom teachers, next year they are reading specialist. They hire and promote unqualified teachers to pretend to teach these students. The parents that say they are happy is because they are sucking up to the principle to get into the AAP center (Mosby Woods). When my son got into accepted to AAP at Mosby Woods, the teacher said to me that students from Marshall Road have a tough time in the program initially because they have to bring all the students from Marshall Road up to the level that the rest of the feeder school students are at. If you have a choice, don't send your child to Marshall Road.

Worst school in Vienna!! Jenn, principle, her main job seems to be trolling the internet to wipe the footprints of negativity about Marshall Road instead of doing her job and take care of the student's learning needs!

Bump for additional inputs from families at Marshall Road.

I think it's pretty obvious that those posting at 12:01 and 12:09 are not even trying to be objective. Exaggerated accusations, which don't reflect our experience at the school, are of no help.

For what it's worth, our daughter is at Marshall Road and we've been satisfied with her education. (And we most definitely do not have low expectations.) Is she being pushed/challenged to achieve her full potential? No, but this is not likely to happen at any Fairfax County public school given class sizes, resource constraints, etc. In fact, we have good friends in more highly rated schools in Vienna and often compare notes on our respective schools' curriculum, homework, etc. and I don't see a meaningful difference. Also, three of the families in our greater neighborhood include a spouse who is a professional educator (including at the university level) and they are all fine with sending their kids to Marshall Road. Finally, our son went on to AAP and was NOT behind his classmates from other elementary schools.

Thank you for this response - I really appreciate it. I'm getting excited for our rising K, early as it is!

So have you experienced the school beyond 2nd grade for either child?
