4000 kids? 4000 humans? How did your arrive at this number? |
| 1100 applications for 300 spots means 27% accept their offers of admission. Does anyone know the rough yield rate there to give applicants an idea of their actual chances of getting an offer? |
LOL. Yeah, I would love to know how you arrived at that number. I was there pretty much all day and I would estimate a few hundred. DS said it wasn't even as crowded as when he went on his shadow day. It is his first choice but I'm not overly excited about it. They keep adding to their classes and it will likely become over crowded in the near future. The school is very big into sports and my DS is NOT sporty. |
This is such a misstatement. My child is there and we live in the neighborhood. He has met a few kids from Deal but most are from area catholic schools and students come from Bethesda, Potomac, Rockville, Upper Marlboro, Germantown, Arlington, McLean, as well as kids in the neighborhood like my son, who went to a private middle school. Please stop spreading these false statements. Kids from Murch go to Wilson and independent and parochial schools. You probably don't even live in DC. Surely St. John's must be doing something right because the school is in demand. And, best of all, PP, to your disappointment, the students seem happy whenever you are on campus. |
I guess not for your kid... |
So if SJC's yield is 30% (which is my best guess, but could well be off) their acceptance rate is around 90%. |
Where are you getting this information from? If it is not from admissions, then it is worth a grain of salt. |
| Why the ongoing hate for SJC? |
For the last few years there have been 20-30 kids from Deal who go to SJC. Many more applied but didn't get in. I have been there at the open houses, all day for the last 3 years (including yesterday). It was packed to the gills. Whoever said it was less than a shadow day didn't attend. |
They have a ton of money. Kids love the school, it's becoming a 1st choice for MoCo kids. They have the best science department. Geeks/girls/athletes are all doing amazing at the school. They beat Gonzaga in LAX and football. SJC has hit it's stride and there is no end in sight with the Plank/Kinsey money pouring in. They are kicking ars and some purple people eaters are butt hurt about it. |

Classy. |
| Every time someone post a question about SJC some Gonzaga parent(s) hijacks the thread to spew negative comments about SJC. it's almost like clockwork. They may even invent the thread so they can throw hate towards SJC. I was at the open house yesterday. It was a great crowd. SJC is not hurting for applicants and more capital improvements are in the works like a state of the art gym and other enhancements. |

It would be lovely if GZ people would just leave well enough alone. If they are secure in their school’s offerings they would not give a whit about the kids applying to SJC.
As for SJC, they do what they do well. I hope their numbers don’t climb too much that they too abandon the “average” kids. There needs to be a place for kids who want Catholic education but don’t have the money or stellar resume that other schools say they require. SJC has risen from the ashes when they were headed toward closure not all that long ago. More power to them! |
