12.5 year old experiencing severe menstrual cramping

Anonymous
Several friends had this problem in highschool and what they found was that if they tracked their period and started the ibprofin 2 days before the start of their period, the cramps almost went away. My understanding is that the muscles start down the path of cramps several days before you actually start feeling them. Hope this helps. That really has to be bad for a 12 year old.

Anaprox is the best. Aleve is better than acetominophen or ibuprofen.

The trick is to take the anaprox as soon as she starts to get crampy. It will take at least 30 minutes for it to kick in -- I know as I used to lay in bed and breathe deeply and watch the clock.

The good news: I did eventually out grow this phase. But it was hell for my teens years and my early 20's. I carried the anaprox everywhere -- it is a muscle relaxant.

Also (don't go bonkers), my mom gave me the occasional stiff drink when I was miserable and nothing else was available.

My mother did this for me too!

I was the same way and took all kinds of drugs growing up to ease cramping pain. It sucked. If I could go back in time, I'd tell myself to do all those yogic reproductive/abdominal exercises my teacher recommends. I am pain free now.
