They set an allowance, just like the Carefirst, and pay 65% of that.

All insurance companies set an allowance. The problem with Carefirst is that the allowance is much lower than actual charges for providers in this area. Not sure about GEHA.

It is such a scam! The "customary" rates should actually reflect the rates customarily charged in the local market.

The difference is less than $200 a month pre-tax. We definitely make that up between reimbursement for out of network and the other reimbursements that are better on standard (co-pays, lab work, etc.).


for me, it would be over $2,000 a year in increased premiums plus a $700 in network deductible before I saw any benefits.
