Go alone! Traveling alone is awesome. I've done it (I'm a woman) many times and highly recommend it. And I have lots of friends but it's fun to travel by yourself

To Nairobi, Kenya? I'm not sure I feel safe doing that. And it just feels like it would be more fun with someone by my side to share the moments with.

I am a 28yo female and have been to Nairobi, Sri Lanka, all over Europe, New Zealand, and Brazil by myself. Traveling alone is awesome.

"DTMFA" was never more appropriate.

This guy sounds like a dick. Why are you with him? He's got no job and been jobless for a year, he complains, he's ungrateful. Why are you with such a loser?

Dump him. Go on a trip to Africa with a friend.

If you're willing to pay his way why not pay a friends way? Choose someone who will be fun to travel with and enhance your experience.

You will be fine. All you will do is book your flight with a tour operator. They will take care of everything for you, there are tourists from all over the world packing that country for the great migrations. Lots and lots of lone travelers. Tour operator is absolutly not necessary, but you seem like you would need one (which is perfectly OK!)Your S/O is not Africa material if he's a complainer. It is rough travel and if you are a whiner, you will find lots to whine about. Do the migrations in August/September (really too late now) once you do that hop on an EASY domestic flight to the coast to the indian Ocean and fly into Milindi and take a taxi to Wantamu get a beach front airbnb and find one great tuk-tuk driver to take you all over the small town that is run by italians and eat the most delicious food the country has to offer, as good as you will find in florence. No joke.. You can then do an ocean safari in the beautiful coral reefs right in the crystal clear waters of the Indian ocean, just a few hundred yards from shore. The snorkeling is so incredible. Thr Kenyan coastline is much skipped by the bulk of the tourists, but holy shit, it is beautiful and unspoiled. The people warm ans helpful. Theyare very very poor, so its best to let one that seems helpful to latch on the entire trip to be yiur unofficial guide. It will keep all the others away.

The beach trip will be a mere fraction of the cost of the Mara. It is best to spend the money and camp INSIDE the mara (dont get roped into being outside) and anything more than 4 nights is overkill.

Amboseli is worth 2 full days, and Ole Pajeta is a day trip.

Mara-the great migrations, nat geo shit...unreal. the crown jewel. Known also for the abundance of big cats, crocs, and heards of animals. Not many poachers, but lots of disrespectful Chinese tourists. Stay away from camps that cater to them. They are awful, loud, drunk, and throw trash everywhere.
Amboseli- elepahnts at the base of Mt Kilamanjaro. Not many cats. People go for the elephants l. Rough, dry hard place. Poachers.
Ole Pajeta- known for rhinos. Last white rinos on earth. Lots of shit bag poachers driven by the Chinese. Unbelieveable landscape. Private reserve, take advantage of thr helpful guides, thry know so much and yoi will learn so kuch from them and come back inspired or outraged.

Leave the wet blanket at home, sieze the day. You only live once.

^^^oh and yiu will only fly into Nairobi. Not woth staying. The pollution will cause yiir lungs to burn. Nairobi is just for flying in. It is not a notable city. I love Kenya and Kenyans, but Nairobi is not a place worth spending much time in. Ans for the record, its a pretty safe city. Just dont be stupid. Much safer than Chicago.

Even at the elephant orphanage? That's sad if the baby elephants are breathing in air that bad. That's the only reason I want to go there.

Wow, thank you so much! That was one of the most informative things I've read about Kenya. I had no idea there are Italians in Nairobi serving Italian food there! I hate those shit bag poachers. Makes me so devastated.

Dump him already, and celebrate your freedom from this asshole with a lovely trip to Africa. You'll thank me someday.

Go alone and get rid of him before you leave. He's dragging you down.

What is also sad is the baby humans breathing that air. Respiratory problems are awful there. Thanks to no trash pickup a city of millions burns much of the trash and the rest is left to clog the streets. The elephant orphanage is a bit on the outskirts. Its an OK thing to do if you have a day to kill, you can bang out the giraffe sanctuary same day. Both are extremely crowded and touristy. What I would highly reccomend is taking a tour of Kibera. It is the largest urban slum in Africa. Not Nairobi, Africa. Might seem exploitative, but these people appreciate the money coming in (buy stuff, i even ate street food there), especially US dollars. You might also be moved to help out or sponsor a child to go to school. At the very least, it will humble you and put your woes in perspective. The people of this slum rely heavily on NGOs and faith based organization to help bring education, sanitation, clean water, and medical care because the government is so corrupt, nothing gets done elsewise.

Oh and the Italian food is on the coast, not Nairobi. Nairobi has some decent restaurants, but in general, the food in Kenya is not the best. The better places are international. I tried very hard to like Kenyan cuisine, but it is not even remotely sophisticated. Meats are tough as leather and much of what you eat is unseasoned. The traditional food is simply meant to full hungry bellies, nothing more. Carbs, goat, and stuff like collards.
