Employer Changed my Health Plan 2 Months Before My Due Date...

OP here-we have a small savings...$1200...the savings that will cover bills, daycare for DD1 and other small expenses while I am out for 6 weeks. DH will be paying for most of the stuff while I am out but we have a little extra for my bills, and whatever else we need while I am out. If we spend $750 we are out half and not all of my bills will get paid. We are a young family with #2 on the way. Right now we are living paycheck to paycheck simply because we are saving for my 6 weeks off and buying everything for the baby. Got rid of pretty much everything after number 1 because we didn't think we would be doing this again for a long time. Had we known this at the beginning then we would have saved a little more but 2 months in advance is crappy. COBRA isn't offered here. Short term disability isn't offered here. He's probably not going to even pay my commissions while I am out, I am definitely not getting my salary. It sucks. It's almost as if I can't afford to work here.

Remember that you can also adjust your tax witholdings since you'll have a second child. That can provide some more take-home pay. Sorry it's a struggle. I'm sure you're doing this, but I would try to borrow as much as possible and buy gently used for the baby. Lots of consignment sales will be starting next month. Maybe you could take this opportunity to start thinking about finding another job.
