HCG levels and singleton versus twin?

Thanks!! I'm happy to have one of each. I have a 27 month old daughter and really wanted her to have a sister & brother.

I do not think my symptoms were any different than when I was pregnant with my first. Although, I do think I was more tired at first that with my 1st, probably due to the increase in HCG. I know this is TMI but I had an orgasm in my sleep right around 4-5dpo. When it happened the 2nd time, it was a dead give away that I was pregnant. These happen when you have an increase of blood flow to your uterus, but it happens to a percentage of women.

Good Luck!! I hope you have 2 little beans cooking.

OP here. Had u/s and there is one baby in there so yes - hCG can vary greatly and really isn't an accurate representation of how many embryos are in there (unless your levels are incredibly high like the PP who was at 14,000)!

Congratulations!!

PP with the 13,000 hCG level here -- congratulations OP! I wish you a healthy and smooth pregnancy .

Good luck! If it is twins be sure to find a twin/triplet moms club to join.

Sounds like I am in the same boat as OP.
IVF at Shady Grove with ER August 5th. 2 embryos implanted. HCG at 19 DPO was 2,040 which the nurse said was high.
First ultrasound today - just one peanut in there, measuring on target and with a visible heartbeat!

OP here. Congratulations PP. Sounds like a very similar boat! I was honestly expecting twins b/c I heard the 2600+ hCG was very high, but just one bean showed up and seemed to measure on target and had a hearbeart (only 135 though). Is that low?

I have had three pregnancies via IVF and all three were high end - have both singleton and twins and the variation was not significant. In afct with teh singleton pregnancy they were preparing me for the news of twins b/c the numbers were so high. So the initial Beta tests can give some indication but it is still wait and see for final results!

Congratulations OP!

Our egg retrieval was August 15 and our transfer date (2 embryos) was August 18. Our betas were as follows:

13dpt (16dpo) - 347
15dpt (18dpo) - 930
17dpt (20dpo) - 2075

We were called in for an early u/s and the Dr. definitely saw two sacs and possibly one more but it was too early to tell about the 3rd at 5 wks and 3 days. Official u/s is on Monday September 14 when we will know for sure.

PP - congrats! And GOOD LUCK for Monday's ultrasound. Could there actually be 3 if 2 were transferred?

Yes - eggs split and that's how identical twins are made.

Early on in pregnancy - could it be twins that show up as one (with one hiding) or do you tend to see quite clearly both sacs when it's early on?

We clearly saw two separate sacs early on (4 wks past ovulation) with our fraternal twins, before we saw the heartbeats.
