NP. Who wants that for their kid? Not age appropriate. That's actually the main problem I have with my kid doing PK at a school serving lots of disadvantaged kids - academics being pushed too much too early. It's not going to put your kid ahead of those who went to a play-based preschool by the time it counts.

I want that if my child is ready for it. We're at a Title I school and the kids get plenty of play time too. We're into our 4th year at a Title I school and have no plans to leave.

we experienced the academic push at our highly sought after DCPS PK3. It's not just the Title I schools.

The absolute test scores aren't the biggest deal to me. The school environment is good and the student growth in scores is pretty good. There's also a lot of differentiation especially after kindergarten so the kids are challenged appropriately.

I'm sure I don't get a lot of jealous looks on the playground because it's not WOTP or a HRCS but I don't care.

I'm not sure this is really relevant but when we moved here a few years ago, our ES was GS8. Now it is GS6. Apparently the drop is due to standardized test scores but we still like the school so do all of our friends.

For DC, a great schools score is comprised of PARCC and the school's median growth percentile (also PARCC based) but looks at growth not proficiency.

So it's still pretty irrelevant wrt early education, but more useful than in other states (including VA and MD) where MGP isn't a part of the score at all because the state doesn't compute it.

Kid is loving her second year of PK at her title 1. Having said that, we are still trying to be out next year. She would thrive anywhere but socially its a dead end, terrible test scores and very clear my kid is not the type of student the admins want at all in the school.
