Did you go on a vacation this summer with your extended family?

Yes. Spent almost the entire summer at my parents beach house sometimes with extended family sometimes with just my parents. I actually have the impression that most people do not do a lot of vacationing with extended family. Among our peers, our summer scenario is unusual.

Same here. Wonder if you are one of my in-laws...

Long weekend at the beach with MIL. She lives with us so there was no chance she was coming on our weeklong summer vacation with us.

No - never, never will either. Thank you.

We usually do, but we vacationed separately this summer due to some wanting to travel to the eclipse.

We did one with my ILs and SIL and her family. We limit it to once every five years ( it takes us that long to recover from a week with all of them) so we won't be doing it again for a long time.

Yes. We paid for it.

No. We never have gone on an extended family vacation. Dh and I have been married nearly 20 years and have 4 kids that are in their teens.

But all our family lives on the West Coast. So it's not like they'd all fly out here and rent a big beach house in OBX anyway.

Our once-and-never-again was this past spring. We paid for my parents to join us in Europe. My mother didn't stop complaining once, not even to breathe. 'The roads are too bumpy, the city is too old, the food is too foody..' ack! We had to take turns misery-sitting her because it was that soul-suckingly horrible. My poor dad doesn't bother putting in his hearing aids anymore, and now I know why.

Nope! First time in years we vacationed alone. It was BLISS! I don't ever want to vacation with anyone else ever again. Ever!

Ha! that would be amazing, we go bc we are not geographically close but very tight knit so we look forward to it annually, but we are definitely WAY low-budget, white trash, whatever compared to dcum vacays. ours are at cheesy beach town motels!

Yes, with my sister and brother's families. Been going to Maine with them every summer for 18 years. It is the highlight of the year, many many fond memories and has been the subject of my three kids' college application essays.

HA! that is HILARIOUS. Sorry, PP.

We spend a week each summer in the mountains with my in-laws (FIL, MIL, BIL, SIL + nephews). We've done it for years and love it (we pay for the vacation home; they pay for almost all the food/ restaurants). No drama or issues.

No but I would like to try it once. Unfortunately neither of my siblings will ever go in on a rental with me. One is too cheap despite having the money and little kids who would enjoy the beach and the other is just too difficult. Reading this thread makes me think I romanticize it.
