Madlax for Girls

There are several excellent clubs run by wonderful people who care about the girls, want them to improve, want them to love lacrosse and want them to play the game because they love the game: Stars, Pride, MC Elite, Cardinals, Bethesda Select, Next Level, . There are some other clubs, further out, like Hero's and Rebels that are also good.

The skill level of the girls in the DC area programs varies widely with the first three lists typically having the best players. Most of these clubs have A teams and B teams. If your daughter is wiling to work hard, attend all practices and games and be a good team player she can make one of these B teams even if she is relatively new to the sport (needs 1-2 years of rec under her belt). Stay away from any teams not listed here as the owners/coaches are not good people, are not looking out for your daughter and are not doing it for the love of the game.

You are an idiot. There are plenty of other clubs in the DMV listed run by good people trying to help girls. Who made you the authority as to which team is legit or not? Go soak your head in a bucket.

How many girls left the Pride 2022 A team this year, and where did they go?

7 - 4 to Stars (1 blue, 3 black), 2 to Cardinals and 1 to VA Metro.

Really? Please name them because I can't think of any other reputable clubs in DMV for grade schools-middle school aged girls (not Baltimore or way outside DC).

DD plays for VA Metro. We haven't had any issues, and her team has always been strong, although there are always a handful of families on the move in her age group in any given year. But I expect that is the case with virtually every club in the DMV.

I second the suggestion for Next Level. Also, in MD try Bethesda Select or Rebels. In VA try Cardinals and maybe even Pride for the B team. Call and see if they are willing to do a practice try out (your daughter attends a practice as her try out). All of these are better clubs with better grown-ups involved than Madlax.

Yes, Google Cabel Maddux and read the lovely email he sent a young man trying to leave one of his programs. That is the one that got published, there are many more. Would t let me kid near his program. Bethesda is pretty solid and is worhh an email.

Not np but have had plenty experience with madlax. Op, stay away. He cares about the fees and that's it. Hires a bunch of fiormer players to coach and your kid is just a number. Do a little searching and you'll find an alternative even if it's a winter indoor program at this point (Univ of md has these) and get your ducks in a row for spring tryouts. Good luck.

That guy is a misogynist who yells at his girls and shames them into losing weight. Stay away.

I'm surprised to hear this. We haven't seen anything that remotely looks like misogyny, but my kid is still in elementary school. We like the guy's focus on teaching the fundamentals of the sport early on.

Ditto. DD is in middle school and we haven't heard anything remotely like this. In my experience, when there are issues they have more to do with parents wanting to vent to him about a coach or coaching decisions, and club policy requires them (or their daughter) to reach out directly to the coach and try to work things out. I think many clubs have a policy like this, including Skywalkers and other Baltimore area teams (heard parental discussion of this at a Baltimore lax clinic over the summer).

Does he actually coach? Never met the guy, been with Madlax for 3 years.

Coaches the class of 21 team for VA Metro. I think a lot of those girls split away from Cardinal, which is how the club got started. Used to help run VLC before they were bought out by the Crabs several years ago. Knows lacrosse and is a good teacher of individual and team skills.

Madlax . . . is that the dumpy store I see every time I have to drive through McLean?

Does the Madlax owner coach? He used to be heavily involved with the Orange and National teams; I think now his is coaching one of the elementary school teams.
