SAHMs what is your "mom uniform"

OP - A good tailor will solve all your problems. Shortening the straps will also solve your arm hole problems. It is a simple and inexpensive alteration. A good tailor will also make all your clothing look more expensive and flatter your figure. They are one of the "must haves" in life.

Every time I go they rip me off. What should I pay for an alteration like that? I know the dry cleaner lady will tell me $22.

I am such a uniform person - I should just add the nametag. For summer I have 5 pairs of cute black (Lyra I think) shorts from Lands End that I love and pair with 5 different solid-colored (no writing) v-neck t's from Talbots with black flips. In the winter I sub the shorts for black yoga pants. I never have to worry about getting dirty or wet or whatever with the kids and the uniform helps me always be ready for exercise. I should get some of those cute dresses though to spice things up.

To OP re low-cut dresses. I have this problem, as well, and usually just throw a tank or one of those boob tubes underneath of it so I'm not showing too much skin. I'm a huge fan of dresses and GASP I even wear havaianas. Shoot me!

Can someone post a link to the kind of dress and/or shoes you're talking about? I can't see anything other than the Units-style tank dresses, circa 1985. And I don't know about others, but a dress + ballet flats = ugly on my legs?? I have to wear some type of heel, even 1" kitten or my legs look weird with a dress (and I'm tall..)

Never use the tailor at a dry cleaners or at a store - unless the work is free. The quality of work is iffy and they charge too much. Find an independent tailor who specializes in alterations. Mine would charge about $10 - $15 depending upon the work needed. Call your local fabric store and ask them for some recommendations.

Some people can't wear flats at all. You do really need to try them on as the quality of leather makes a big diff as to how they look. If you prefer heels, it's all about the heeled gladiator sandal this year - the fiercer the better - done with a dress. For flats, the hottest are Tory Burch (Reva) and always, Chanel.

For dresses, you can check out Diane von Furstenburg's website for an idea.

Who's your tailor????

I was quoted anywhere from $25 to $30+ to have pants tapered (waist all the way down)!! And I have several good pairs I need altered for work.

When clothing is tailored, everything looks better and your clothing appears to be more expensive than the price you paid. It is worth the extra investment. Everything I buy goes to my tailor for a quick review even before the tags are snipped off. Men tailor everything they buy - why not us, too?

I agree, but does your weight fluctuate monthly? I have a 5 lb swing and would hate to take in waistband to fit me on days 7-21, and then not be able to fit it on the other days. Likewise, I can't buy two of everything and have them tailored accordingly.

Anonymous wrote:Hi, I haven't spent much since I had the kids. I have 2 pairs of jeans, no shorts, 1 cargo pangs, 2 skirts, 3 leggings, 2 teeshirts, 2 wraps, 2 button down shirts, 2 dresses, 2 formal skirts...

I pretty much LIVE in my jeans, a teeshirt, leggings. I probably look sloppy with the tee shirt and jeans. I feel most comfortable in the leggings and cargo pants. Love the cargo pants. Since I have twins under the age of 2, it's comfort and convenience (yes, you can fit two bottles -- one in each cargo pant pocket).

I do get stared at and people do comment that I am 20 or something. I'm always carded though I'm 38. It probably has to do with my attire. I live in a snobby area, so some ladies do look down when they walk by. I don't care. I spend my money on books, books, and then more books

I kept picturing the cargo pants with leggings underneath....eek! lol

I live in jeans and feminine tops on cooler days and dresses in the summer, shorts for playdates/park visits. I also swore I would never wear leggings and but I tried them and LOVE them with tunics and sandals.
