Loves: Silicon Valley, Veep, The Americans, Parks and Rec, Insecure, Game of Thrones, The Fall, Great British Baking Show, the first season of Bloodline, the first season of True Detective.
Likes: Blackish.
Can't Suffer: Really "British" crime shows, like Sherlock, anything with a laugh track.
Tried and didn't like: Peaky Blinders, Orphan Black, Luther.

There are other things we tried and he didn't like, but it's easier to list the things he loved (because we watched them all the way through).

Suggestions? Thanks!

Try alpha house and brain dead for comedies on amazon. The patriot, the night manager, bosh, and hunted are all really good for action/suspense.

It was good!

I second Mr. Robot nad if you have not already watched -- The Americans on amazon.

The Killing's first season was amazing. After that it went a little down hill, but all around still a very good show.

The Wire. Watch them in order and get through the second season (it's the worst, but still good).

Catastrophe

I'm assuming you've watched Arrested Development (the original three seasons).

Downton Abbey (British, but not crime?)

If you want old HBO, Deadwood is good, so is Rome, although they're both a little slow.

The Walking Dead was awesome until this year, but the first however many seasons were great.

Bosch on Amazon if he likes American crime shows

American Horror Story (disconnected seasons so you don't need the urge to watch all seasons)
Suits
House of Cards

Op again: Thanks so much for all the great suggestions! Some of them (Kimmy Schmidt, House of Cards, and the Killing) we've already tried and he didn't like them enough to continue -- with The Killing, he liked the first season but gave up in the second.

We have seen the Wire (loved) & Arrested Development, both of which he liked.

I think Shameless, Ozark & Fargo are next on the list!

Again, thanks for all the suggestions
