Why isn't New York considered a New England state?

The border between Vermont and New York was unclear/disputed for many years. That area of New York was considered New England. You are not a historian.

As a southerner, I can tell you that Yankees refers to anyone from the north, not just New England.


And no New Englander wants to be associated with the New York Yankees!
