Public beaches in Cape Cod - any good ones?

Yes, my friend was freaked out by shark sightings (and maybe an attack a few years ago?) so we didn't swim on the ocean side. We can ditch them for a day for clear water. Did we need a special car tag to drive there though?

It's public land. You just need to pay for parking. And go early. There have been sharks in the bay this year too but the chance of a shark attack is super low.

Thanks! My friend is neurotic so we will just leave her behind.

How does one transfer a sticker from a rental house?

In most towns you don't. They go on the car. In our town (Chatham) they write the license plate number on the sticker so definitely not transferable. If you buy a pass at the National Seashore they peel off the back and put the sticker right on the windshield. You can also pay for a single day of parking at the Seashore.

We have a Chatham beach sticker but don't go to that many beaches that use it. And at all of those beaches you can pay for parking by the day. The majority of beaches on the Cape are open to all but have parking fees. Some towns have weekly stickers or passes available, look it up on the town website. But be aware that they will only cover town operated parking lots/beaches.

Growing up we liked Seagull Beach in West Yarmouth.

We have a family home on Cape Cod. We have a private beach. It's on the deed to our home. It does exist.

we now live in Boston and this is our favorite beach on the cape-mostly because it allows dogs year round. If you go past the lifeguard stands, it is never crowded-where dogs are allowed. I will say that last summer the seals swam right up to us there-right to the shoreline-it was crazy!! But gosh are they cute. As you exit the park, there is a good lobster shanty place...and then we hit the Sundae School right after

Sundae School is very good but I like Nauset better (and the friendly fisherman is great too).

Also not sure what's with the PP who think the national seashore isn't public land. One of the best monuments to Thoreau (200 this year!) and JFK.

We are here now and do have a "private beach" in our neughborhood but also have enjoyed Head of the Meadow on the ocean side. You can see seals. Lots of surfer but I wouldn't go out there ---- But, fantastic sand bar created when we go in mornings abs kids play in the inlet that crops up....that have loved it. Beautiful too. Also really love Gull Pond in Wellfleet.

What town and, if ocean side, what keeps people from walking from elsewhere to your beach?

We live in Orleans. Potchet is private beach but if you're at Nauset and walk to Potchet, noone is kicking you off the beach.

Yeah, but if you are the antagonistic type visiting from the DC/VA/MD area, you want us to spell it out for you? No can do.

What is public land? You think "National Seashore" means public land? LOL!

You don't know what the Cape Cod National Seashore is? LOL! It's part of the National Park Service.

What are you talking about. I just said that I'm from Orleans. I don't even believe you're from the Cape. Maybe you visit that family home once in a blue moon but there's just no way someone from the Boston area and Cape has something so far up his or her butt.

Is it an association beach or your own beach? We have an association beach that is a private beach for our neighborhood (along with a dock) but that doesn't seem very private to me. And while we use the dock we rarely use the beach because I prefer the Seashore beaches.

In our town there just aren't that many houses with their own beaches.

I'm the poster from Orleans. I also don't consider a bit of sand on an inlet off the bay a beach. Our neighborhood shares one of those and it is private in that it's hard to access without being in the neighborhood or consipicioulsy docking at our dock. If that's what the obnoxious poster means, oh. But that's not an ocean side beach like the OP is looking for anyway.
