When did an OK to Wake clock work for your kid?

I agree about starting at "his" time then pushing it back gradually. Also, have some chocolate milk or other not-too-junky treat you can include in his breakfast for when he is successful at following the rule.

We started to use one at 24 months and he took to it easily (we used a sticker reward chart).

What time does your son go to bed at night? Could be that his sleep needs are changing.

He goes to bed between 7:30 and 8:00. He's clearly tired at bedtime and falls asleep easily, and sleeps all night

My first we started at 18 months and my second at about 2. We did what the PP suggested - initially we set it earlier than he was getting up so he would be successful immediately ("yay! The clock is green, you can get up!"). Then we slowly started moving it 5 minutes later. Now, he's up for probably 29-30 minutes before it changes, and as soon as it does he pops up and announces "my clock turned green!"

I just get up when my kids get up.

I'm trying it for naps for my 17 month old . We've been trying for two weeks and it helps a little. I think she gets the concept though. If she wakes way early and I go in to check her diaper, she'll point at her clock like she wants it to change so she can get up. She gets super excited when it turns on.

Mine worked for my 5:00-5:30 riser around 22 months. But she was never upset about it. And we didn't try to make radical changes, stopped at 6:15.

We started using ours a few months before we transitioned out of the crib because we wanted him to understand the concept BEFORE being in a bed. For us - blue is sleep and yellow is wake up (LIKE THE SUN - we say).

We started right around 2. For the record, I agree with you that 630 is too early to wake up! My son still uses his clock and it turns yellow at 7:30 - if he wakes early he can hold out and now will grab a book if he needs too.

We actually set it early at first to maximize success. SO whenever they usually wake up (Let's say 7) - we set it for 6:45. That way if they woke early (6:30) they only had to make it 15 mins. If they woke at 7 or after, it was yellow and YAY you made it! Once the concept started to stick, we moved it by 5 minutes a week until we had it where we were all happy.

Good luck, we LOVE our clock and I'm counting the days until I can start one with my 16 month old (who woke at 6:30 today, womp womp).

We tried it around the age of your kid, and it didn't work. We tried it again around 2.5 or 3, and it was like magic. If you find that it's just not working, take a break for a little while and then try again. I'm not sure exactly when we tried again, but I'd say that around age 3, it started to work great. My kid is now 5 and still uses it. He pushes the boundaries sometimes, coming into our room too early, but our refrain is always, "Did your clock turn green yet?" If it's too early, he'll say, "No..." and go back to his room until it does.
