We have a rising senior at Westfield. Our kid seems to be okay with it, and we have no real complaints. Excellent student, athlete, musician, and enjoys the mix of kids from a lot of backgrounds. His core best friends are still mostly kids he knew from the AAP center middle school. He'd be fine at any of the schools around here. If I could afford to live in the zone, I'd rather send my kids to Chantilly.

IDK how much you paid for your house, but most people are not priced out of Chantilly. We have kids who went Carson / Chantilly for AAP, and I don't think the drop off in house prices is that noticeable when you drive down Centreville Road toward Herndon.

DP. Yes.

We're at Virginia Run. I get that Kathy Smith is a self-serving schmuck, but this particular neighborhood has lots of nice kids and families and it is gross to treat them like a hot potato.

PP here. Sorry if I burst your bubble, but when I said we couldn't afford to buy in the Chantilly neighborhoods, I meant it. We rent a small townhouse in a shabby pocket of a neighborhood that feeds to Westfield. We're part of the dreaded lower-income group. "Poors." We're so grateful for the AAP centers, because our kids qualified and have benefitted greatly from slightly more challenge, the ability later on in high school to stockpile a lot of AP credits for college, and to make friends with lovely, smart, ambitious kids.

Seriously dude, get a grip. Someone from Westfield pupil places to Chantilly for the Academy. I pupil placed from Chantilly to SLHS in February for IB, and then, once decisions were released, amended that and pupil placed to TJ. All othis is completely legal and above board. It is not like committing residency fraud, etc. If you are against school choice, take it up with the school board.

You sound like a real jerk. Not everyone is equally situated to take advantage of these "choices," and there's nothing wrong with making sure those who do have bona fide reasons.

the reasons for a request are clearly stated on the website, and confirmed when transfer requests are processed.

The academy offers additional vocational and STEM-oriented courses (for example, auto technology, cosmetology, culinary arts, programming, network administration) and is open to students from neighboring schools. Some of the courses offered at the academy like STEM Engineering are also electives at other schools.

Yes, and it is one of the only large, poor neighborhoods in that part of the county (a trailer park).

This isn’t true. Westfield kids I know all have to bus or drive to Chantilly for Academy classes. Chantilly would never take Westfield transfers anyway. It’s too overcrowded.
