Infertility Support and Discussion
You don't have to read every thread. If you have questions about TTC that are not infertility based, ask your question there and you will get good responses. Do you have a problem with women who have fertility problems wanting to discuss those with each other, not necessarily having all the other women chime in about how easy it was for them or how "hard" it was when they didn't get pregnant for a whole six months? |
I actually think the problem is the reverse....that women who are having fertility problems jump on non-infertility based threads with an "how dare you ask that? I've been trying to conceive for 5yrs and you are being so thoughtless in posing a question that doesn't take into account how painful it is for me to know that you aren't having the same types of problems. You are being insensitive to my feelings and the heartache I'm experiencing." That sort of reaction tends to squash the "rights" of anyone TTC without intervention to express their thoughts/feelings/hopes/fears without having to worry about stepping on others' toes. |

I would suggest http://forums.ovusoft.com/Default.asp?cookieCheck=643245408 the website from that book "Taking Charge of your Fertility". The comunity board is great, divided in:
Cycle charting help Trying to Conceive Fertility Tests and Tools Complementary and Alternative Therapies Trying to Avoid Pregnancy TTC Buddy Groups TTA Buddy Groups; Infertility Assisted Reproductive Technologies Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Endometriosis Male Factor Infertility Pregnancy and Infant Loss Recurring Pregnancy Loss Infertility and Loss Buddy Groups Names, Nurseries and Other Fun Pregnancy Support Pregnancy After Infertility High Risk Pregnancy Support Labor, Delivery, and Postpartum Pregnancy Buddy Groups (...) And others... Best of luck. |
| I haven't noticed ppl not going through IF getting jumped on/criticized on this board (except maybe for that post a while ago about only wanting a baby of a single gender, but that might not have gotten the best response no matter where it was posted). But if you have a general, non-IF question, you can always say in the subject line "Not IF related" and then ask your question. Again, I think ppl on this board are pretty nice overall. And I find this board to be much easier to use than IVFconnections, which is a bit overwhelming for me. |
I don't think it's fair to tell women who aren't (or may not know yet whether they are) having fertility problems to go post on the Expectant Moms board. |
| I think it is really inappropriate to suggest the Expectant Mom board to anyone trying to conceive. ANY woman who is TTC should feel welcome on this forum. I understand that women struggling with infertility may have a hard time being reminded that other women may be more fortunate than them from a fertility standpoint, but you can't hijack an entire forum to cater to the needs of a subgroup of the TTC population. |

Whether you are TTC or going through fertility treatments...I think we all have things we can learn from each other during this journey to parenthood. I personally am going through the horrible experience of fertility treatments but have found that I've learned some helpful/interesting things from women who simply were TTC on their own and/or had gave birth to babies without the aid of fertility treatments. I think as long as this board does its best to stay positive in tone when possible, no matter what the topic, then everyone should be able to get something out of it.

| Interesting question OP poses about most going through IF treatments, because I'm somewhere in the middle and at times feel like most on this board are, indeed, going through actual treatment. Though I have found the board to be supportive, I haven't found many like me - going through secondary infertility, but not opting for treatment at this point. We've worked with an RE to identify problems, but aren't likely to go the route of IUI or IVF. Most I encounter on here are in the midst of treatment. |
