Safe areas of Northeast DC

What's funny is that no one asks this about NW, but it's the largest quadrant and PLENTY of crime happens in it, LOL

I live in Kingman Park and we think it's safe.

We have lived in Eckington, on R Street NE, for 7 years and not yet victim of any crime. Crime fairly low in this part of Eckington. A bit higher north of Mckinley high school.

Seems in NE especially there is always some risk of crime but certain areas, e.g., certain areas in Edgewood, Lincoln Heights, Trinidad, etc. more prone to crime.

I think 15:37 has nailed it. There are lots of neighborhoods like that in NE - some are not hip or on the radar of the hip but they are good family neighborhoods.

Agree though I would say that Capitol Hill is actually quite safe -- just not by the DCUM super-high standards. Even H street is unless you're wandering around at bar closing time hammered -- or buying drugs.

Ehhh, 15:37 here again. I've worked on H St near the new Whole Foods for a few years. Around the bus stops at 8th and H there was a stabbing midday a few years ago and other assorted violent crime that happened during the work day. I have pretty reasonable standards for urban safety, but still want to live somewhere where I can walk the dogs after dark, leave things on the porch without them getting stolen, etc. I don't personally feel like H St/NE Capitol Hill meets that standard, but also don't feel like it's unsafe with a slightly higher degree of vigilance.

I live in North Michigan Park and we've never had a problem in the three and a half years we've been here. No car break ins, no packages stolen. We do have a crazy guy in the neighborhood who has scary aggressive dogs, but the neighborhood has banded together to make sure he is reported to the police anytime he's seen out with the dogs.

Also Riggs Park near North Michigan Park is pretty safe.

I also live in Kingman Park. I feel safe here but my packages get stolen all the time.

How about Woodridge or Michigan Park? Those areas seem nice.

Seven years in Woodridge and zero packages stolen, no car break-ins, nothing. And we get a ton of packages. Now, it's not as interesting as NE Capitol Hill, which I loved, but much less property crime.

OMG, I love that neighborhood, Arboretum on one side and huge police station on the other. Only thing to worry about there is deer with attitudes.

I also like Langdon Park and Woodridge, big lots and SFH. Become a real rarity in the city.

When did NE become so gentrified? I drove through two separate sections over the weekend and could hardly believe my eyes. It wasn't that long ago that we used to make sure the doors were locked when we drove through. It now seems pretty cool and hip.

Laugh at me all you want. My uncle was a DC cop. Car jacking and muggings used to happen all the time. You must be one of those new transplants.

Safe and NE are words that don't really belong next to each other.

You're hung up on the past ("My uncle WAS a DC cop" and "Car jackings and muggings USED to happen all the time") and you have no clue of what's going on in the present ("When did NE become so gentrified?) but despite your antiquated and ignorant perspective you...lol...you actually think you're credible to comment on what seems pretty cool and hip...LOL!!! That's hilarious.
