Age to go to movies without an adult

OP here. My 13 year old is a boy, younger one is a girl. I was thinking of having them go together.

I'd find it a little weird if ANYONE took the seat right next to my kids in a mostly empty theatre. Or even if they took the seat right next to me, as an adult. Even if a person is lonely it's weird to sit that close to other people when there's so much room. (And how does it serve to alleviate their loneliness?)
