| They finally posted the presentations online. I didn't attend the JFac mtg, but the APS-County pdf shows the renovation of the Ed Center and the expansion of the career center as done deals. So I guess they're going with the hybrid option. |
| Does this mean the VHC parcel is off the table for schools? |
|
What a shame about the VHC lot. A comprehensive high school at kenmore could have drawn from well up into north arlington to achieve some socio economic diversity for that school. It would have taken some logistical planning to build a full school at both VHC and Kenmore, but with two big plots of land it would have provided a long term solution to a problem.
Glen Carlyn folks- this decision is on your heads because you fought so hard against it. You are not going to get a park and peace and quiet. You are going to get a bus depot that will send a lot of particulate matter to the adjacent Campbell elementary school. Now your kids and the majority of lower income kids that attend that school will breath that air and suffer the health consequences. So will the stream (that will also get lots of nice stormwater despite the mandated controls) and local residents. You will have constant bus flow on Carlin Springs all day long rather than just during the school rush. How much fun will it be to have buses making left hand turns at that intersection! Shame on you for being as NIMBY as some north arlington folks. |
I can't tell from the presentations alone. I'm not sure if a decision was made last night on that parcel. |
| Great job Glen Carlyn - now suck on those fumes! |
|
Come on guys. The Glen Carlyn peeps have zero pull. The county had no desire to push through with Kenmore. No political will.
They would have had to start working on a LONG TERM solution way back. That's not how this brilliant county operates. I don't understand why we are so retarded. But we are. |

Two options still on table for VHC, just one for Buck:

| Yep, under both scenarios Carlin Springs will be a bus depot. Hope you are all happy with that, Glen Carlyn. You didn't get two shiny new schools and the associated traffic twice a day. You got idling buses, bus traffic all day and an incredible amount of pollution. |
| We almost bought over there 10 years ago. It was zoned WL, and we thought it might be our best bet to get into Arlington. So glad we waited and bought further East. I wasn't informed about Arlington politics at the time. That area is a loser. They get that short end of eveything, with very little up side. Every county needs a dumping ground, well that's Arlington's. |
| Many argued the SB/CB don't care about what residents want, in this thread and others, yet you're now blaming GC for the vote results. So which is it? Did SB/CB listened to us or did they do whatever they want? |
I think the SB's #1 priority is to keep NVD from coming after them with a shiv. So they're not likely to go against the superintendent any more than they have to. Second is making 22207 happy. Third is a show of listening to the community. Sometimes that means postponing what they were going to do anyway (see ES at TJ site -- after a year, Arlington had not grown any land). Fourth is not setting long-term financial priorities. Do we have any idea how APS is thinking of meeting the needs for the school it says it will need to add beyond what's already planned? That allows them to make all sorts of bad decisions. They just need to make sure those decisions don't affect people zoned for Williamsburg and Yorktown. |
Many of us in 22207 are zoned for WL, are not happy to have that school grow to 3,000 students and would have preferred a 4th comprehensive HS. |
