The American History museum has a baby playroom, OP.

OP, I'd do Natural History or American History. Dealing with my crying baby in a quiet art museum would stress me the f out!

I'm 9:13. I think we all knew that, and were just gently ribbing OP. You've gotten good answers, I think. Enjoy!

I took my newborn to The Freer-Sackler Gallery last summer and we had a wonderful time. Lots of quiet 'nooks' to nurse, and it's such a great museum. Nice and quiet. My favorite one on the Mall.

Any of the museums would be fine.If your friend has one, I'd recommend using an Ergo (or similiar carrier) for the baby as strollers (particularly larger ones) can be a pain to navigate through crowded spaces. Plus, you won't have to worry about finding & waiting for elevators, elevators being out of service, etc.

Does anyone know how the parking near the American Art museum/portrait gallery is during the day? I want to take my 2 month old but I'm not quiet ready to metro yet.

I usually have pretty good luck parking on Jefferson and Madison (the two inside streets along the mall) on weekdays. Those are three hour with no meters.

Newborns aren't doing much playing.

Oh the memory of sitting in the sweltering heat on the national mall just being totally miserable after carrying my screaming crying baby out of the Natural History museum.
Fun times.

Be forewarned you can't wear a backpack in National Gallery of Art, so if she's wearing the baby and carrying a backpack, you have a problem. I did at least.

Forgo the stroller and wear the babe. Too crowded for stroller.

Do newborns even know what a museum is? What a truly stupid question. As long as you are there to shove a boob in it's mouth it doesn't give a damn where it is!

I'm a first time mom. Thanks a lot. I was thinking there must be some museums in DC that are better than others in terms of places to breastfeed and where it's okay to bring a stroller. Also some museums may be quieter than others.

Ever hear of Google?

Omg, this is hilarious. Please get some common sense and realize that newborns do not give two xxxx which museum you take them to.
