Is this a smart move financially?

If I was recruiting you and saw this post, you'd be out of consideration in a hot second for general lack of discretion and common sense.

NP. You are paranoid. The job is common and the D.C. area and the Boston area are both very large.

+1....equally as plausible that OP changed around her job title and salary a bit before posting this.

Agreed. How many people in Cambridge do you think are reading DCUM? I do, but we're military who've lived in VA before. I don't think I have much company here.

OP here. I changed quite a few of the factors and information in this post.

I guess I'm just thinking we will hope someone reliable rents our place until we can sell it for a profit.

It's not really oversharing. It's a straight up in our face HumbleBrag.

"looky at us, I just got 6-figure job with Huge University in Cambridge, MA that just wants me badly no matter what outrageous demand$ I make... then hubby just rolled over, sent a random text to Cambridge, MA, and he's got an instant 6-figure job too!.... should accept the offers? Ah, life, what a dilemma!"

Why do you have to sell it for a profit? Do you want to be a landlord?

Where do you want your kids to grow up?

Great analogy. OP can't see the big picture.

OP, take the university offer.

OP's husband makes more than my HHI and I still think you're reading too much into this post. It's the "Money and Finances" section of DCUM. It would be silly to seek advice without providing context.

OP, sounds like moving makes the most sense. I don't get the impression that your family is tied to this area, outside of having a mortgage.

Take the job and go. It sounds like both of you will be better off career wise, and a wash financially.

It's not easy being an out of state landlord. You may have to hire a company or someone to take care of the repairs. Which will eat into profits. Even worse, you already estimate a negative cash flow. Mortgage > rent is a big liability. Can you afford to pay mortgage when tenent moves out? Also condos don't appreciate in value as compared to SFH or townhouse. As an investment, it's not worth it.

I would take the job in Cambridge.
Too many people let their homes chain them down, rent it out and if you can't the sell it, even in you take a small loss, the positives of the new job are significant.

sounds like you are very smart and if you got offered 25% more you are more than likely to get 25% more here.
If you market yourself and start looking for a job youd find the same salary here. Same goes for your DH
Just go out and find a better job and stay here. Boston had 2 seasons, winter and spring for 2 months. DC is 10000% better
