I graduated a little after you, and the only people in my middle class family who gave me $100 or more were immediate, close family members. Among my same-age friends, everyone gave $20. Family I only see a few times a year gave $20-75.

$50 for a relative you haven't seen in a decade is more than generous!

Amazon has a student Prime program that is free for 6 mos and 1/2 price after that. And if the parents have Prime the kid can use theirs.
