Baby Shower Games

take a paper plate, put it on top of your head, and then ask the guests to draw a picture of a baby. The mom-to-be gets to judge the best drawing.

We also played Finish the Nursery Ryhme.

Place a variety of baby items on a tray, allow the guests to "study it", then take away the tray, and have the guests write down everything they remember. Add a twist: have the guests write down what the mom-to-be is wearing (have the mom-to-be leave the room obviously).

It's fun and gets conversation going.

Baby Bingo is always fun . . . make up a bunch of blank bingo cards ahead of time. Before you get to the gift opening portion, have guests fill in each square with a different baby item they think the mom is likely to receive. As she opens up presents, they cross items off their bingo boards.

Oh God, if I knew in advance there'd be the humiliating/gross games - eating baby food, sucking on bottles, eating out of a diaper - I'd stay home. If you have to have them, let people know so they have a choice to beg off.

Do people really need to be warned that there are likely to be games at a shower?? Isn't that like saying "Beware, we are going to have cake at our wedding. And dancing." I think games are pretty standard at showers, people should pretty much expect them to take place. If someone is so sensitive they are worried about it, they probably should stay at home or tactfully decline to participate in the offending game.

I think it's a question of the type of games and the personality and preferences of the guest of honor. The suggestions you see people posting here, for the most part, are 'cute' but not what some might term gross or silly or embarrassing.

I'd be delighted to play a game of "baby bingo" or write advice or good wishes for the mother-to-be at a shower. I would not be amused if I were asked to smell or eat some unknown substance designed to look like excrement.

Oh, give the guests a break! No stupid games. they are not fun. No one likes them. And no stupid ice breakers. I am an outgoing person, but nothing makes me feel more inhibited and uncomfortable than games and "ice breakers." they should call them "ice makers."

Actually, yes. I've never been to a shower (mine will be the first), and I never ever ever would have thought that these shenanigans occur. I'm finding this thread both amusing and appalling. I don't know who will be throwing my shower (still early) but now I know I will certainly have to go over "parameters" beforehand. But I'm the first pregnant one of my local friends, so who knows if they are a "game crowd" or not. And I can assume from this thread that my btdt relatives will have already seen it all.

I'm having three showers and in every case when the hosts have offered to throw it, I've thanked them effusively and then said, "I just have one request -- please no games." And everyone is honoring that. I had the first shower last weekend, and when the hostess opened it by welcoming everyone and told them that I requested no games, a cheer actually went up in the room! We had lunch, I got to visit with all my friends and it was much more enjoyable.

And I'd like to add that I'm a person who loves games. I'm in a game club with other couples that meets once a month and a bridge club that meets weekly. But that's not what I want to do when I'm able to get together with a lot of girlfriends and family that I don't get to see regularly to celebrate this special time.

The only suggestion on here that I would consider would be the baby photos of all your guests. That's a cute idea.
