Oh I see, the primary classes are new. Makes sense, then. |
Yeah, I also would guess that a lot of Montessori model schools suffer from higher-than-normal attrition after K - I think that Shining Stars' elementary classrooms are part of what makes it special, but (unfairly in my experience) Montessori is definitely more of a mental reach for some parents at that age than when their kids are very young. |
I also guess that some people want SSMA (or Lee, CHML or Breakthrough) because they hear good things about them and not because they are particularly interested in the Montessori approach. |
I think the unanswered question is does SSMA now increase their retention rate for upper and lower elementary with a solid location? |
Just because it's better than their other options. But if they keep trying or have a younger sibling, eventually they will get something they like better. |
SSMA by grade level this year:
Primary: PK3: 47 PK4: 55 K: 43 Lower El: 1st: 32 2nd: 10 3rd: 6 Upper El: 4th: 3 5th: 7 They they exhaust their waitlists this year? I'm surprised PK3 enrollment is lower than PK4 |
Well then is the retention rate similar among the various montessoris in the city, or worse at SSMA? |
LAMB - 95% SSMA - 80% Lee - 75% Breakthrough too new to have data. |
I would expect worse due to the location drama. |
Private Montessoris also significantly trail off as you move to the upper grades. |
Where did these figures come from? |
The 2015-16 PMF reports for each school. http://www.dcpcsb.org/performance-management-framework-pmf |
What are these numbers? Total enrollment this year? This Tableau link states figures for spaces available for the 2017-18 year - https://public.tableau.com/profile/aaron2446#!/vizhome/MSDCSeatsandWaitlistOfferData/MSDCPublicDisplay It says 60 PK3; 13 PK4; and 9 K spaces available -- and, of course, some of those go to sibling preference. |
That was total enrollment this year per the audit. |
