Another warning on "dog friendly".... you need to contact the hotel directly no matter WHAT you find written about it somewhere else. First, hotels are constantly changing their minds about pet policies. You need to talk to someone at the hotel itself to make sure they're still pet friendly. ALSO, find out if they are charging a fee. Frankly, most places that are current "dog friendly" are charging nonrefundable "extra" pet fees. $25 is one thing, but there are more and more places that are charging more like and additional $75. That's not something you want to be surprised by.
Good for you for vacationing with your pet. It can be a true pleasure. My dogs LOVE going on trips. Frankly, they enjoy camping the most--nothing remote, just car camping. With some hikes during the day. But I'm sure they'd like dog-friendly cities as well.
