Culturally and academically it's fine to use. People know what you mean. All the MAPs--Model Aspergers Programs didn't change their names. OP, I'm wondering if the people who say that there's no benefit actually have an older child. There are actually college level support programs for students with LDs, executive functioning issues and even autism, e.g.: https://www.rit.edu/~w-ssp/ So yes, think the future--think long term. |
Hello,pp, I'm the above poster, and wonder how your thoughts have developed on this? We did have our son tested, and he was diagnosed with ASD, though the psychologist said it was hard to tease out from what she saw as anxiety. The interesting thing is that when I broached the subject of testing with our son, it turned out that he already suspected autism in himself, because of his social difficulties. He was happy to do the testing, because he likes testing in general and because he wants to know. He's not so excited about doing a social skills group, though, which we are trying to talk him into. Also, I still haven't decided about whether to tell the school. (Because I am not sure how it will help.) |
