Taking a break between undergrad and grad school

| I took 2 years off between undergrad and grad. I wish I had taken more time off, in retrospect. I will have had 11 years between my MA and starting my PhD this fall. I really believe that long gap, and the serious consideration I showed about pursuing the PhD path (taking classes again at the grad level for non credit to get back in the classroom, refocusing my work to better align with my doctoral interests, ultimately taking a pay cut to take a fellowship well matched to my proposed topic of study...), made me a much stronger candidate then if I had apply right out of my MA or soon thereafter. |
