Sunday school / Hebrew school - has terminology changed?

Many young Jews studying for bar or bat mitzvah go more than once a week. We called Sunday "Sunday school" and weeknight classes "Hebrew school."

I didn't grow up Jewish but my children are. Wednesdays are when they learn Hebrew so that would be Hebrew school. They have another day of religious education on Saturdays. I refer to that as religious school because I can't call it Sunday school and Saturday school doesn't sound right.

When I was growing up, we called the one on Sundays "Sunday School" but now I noticed some people call it "Religious School" instead. I never understood that Christians went to Sunday School too, I always thought they went to church on Sunday and we went to school.

Growing up, I also went to Hebrew School on weeknights, that was a totally separate thing and was actually at the JCC instead of the shul. At my current shul, they call the weeknight thing "Religious School" as well but I don't know if it's specifically Hebrew or the same thing as Sundays.
