We're not comfortable paying for strictly a fine arts degree. It's been discussed that she also needs to study something more practical as a backup plan. So that takes out most major art schools. She's a big fan of the Brown/RISD program, but obviously it's a crapshoot. |

| No offense but why would anybody go to college to be an artist? There are much more direct ways to refine or expand your talent. |
Ignore this poster. He/she is talking out of his/her a***. Seriously. Would you tell an aspiring musician not to study with a music teacher? |
Agreed. Carnegie Mellon has an excellent art program. Also consider what type of art because it can matter. For instance, Yale has a great painting program, RISD is good for metals and woodworking. University of New Mexico and Arizona State both have excellent photography programs. Carnegie Mellon is known for being more experimental/conceptual whereas RISD and Yale are more traditional. - signed someone who had a BFA and MFA in visual arts. |
| ^^ not saying these schools are only good in one media, but if your child is very interested in something specific, it's just something to think about. |
