| I feel like the full name of the institution should be Harvey Mudd-What's That? |
It is an outstanding school academically, but when we visited, my daughter decided this was not the school for her because a) the school is so small (800 undergraduates total, which was the size of her high school, and she didn't want to replicate that), b) the campus is excruciatingly ugly, and she wanted a campus with a more "traditional" look, and c) the Claremont colleges are lined up in a row in a very boring suburban area, and she preferred a more urban setting. She is a freshman at M.I.T. and loves it, even though it is not the most gorgeous campus, either .

| Wasn't he a character in Star Trek OST? |
But the Claremont Independent serves all the schools in the cluster. A friend of mine has a daughter on the paper there. Lots of conservatives have been yelled off campus. It's been a very ugly year there. |
| Like this. Also a number of speakers have given up. I would not send a child there now. http://claremontindependent.com/students-at-claremont-colleges-refuse-to-live-with-white-people/ |
| Heather McDonald gave up trying to speak there. http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-macdonald-claremont-speech-disrupted-20170408-story.html |
If you're going to make a nerd joke, get it right. It's Star Trek TOS (The Original Series), and the character was Harry Mudd. You cannot out-nerd the kids at Harvey Mudd.
|
No, the "Independent" gets its funding from a national network of conservative organizations. It "serves" them. http://tsl.news/news/6685/ |
Kind of dumb to have visited then, as one would know, beforehand, that Claremont is not an "urban" location and what the size of the school is. |
It was ugly before that too, with the social justice warriors surrounding the president a year or so again (I forget). Ugly and cringe-inducing. |
^^ this refers to CMC. |
I don't think you are getting the picture. The clairemont colleges (pomona, pitzer, harvey-mudd, CMC, Scripps, etc.) are part of a consortium of schools that share a common campus and libraries. Anything that happens at CMC is literally ten feet from the Scripps dorms. You can't avoid the mayhem by being in one of the other colleges. http://www.claremont.edu/ |
|
Depends on what you mean by mayhem -- yeah, if there's tear gas and police in riot gear, it'd be an issue. Girls arguing about who gets to wear what kind of earrings, not so much.
Dorms, cafeterias, and classes are separate (though cross-registration is allowed). |
First, it's Claremont, not "clairemont." Second, it's not "mayhem." Sorry you have the vapors. |
| L.A. Times. This is "mayhem". http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-macdonald-claremont-speech-disrupted-20170408-story.html |
