Was this brought up at the meeting? Over $1million for name change? When are they going to sneak that through?

I would expect much of the expense of the name change could be offset through crowdfunding. But I suppose that's something that the racist white supremacists in NoVa (and there are a lot of them) clinging to their War of the Northern Aggression theories would never want to acknowledge.

Okay. Then, if you want it, why don't you get the crowdfunding first? Then, move forward.

And, has it occurred to you that educating kids is the purpose of the school system. Do you really think that changing the name of one school is worth a year's worth of salaries for 10 teachers? In other words, cutting 10 teachers for a name change? And, that is for one school.

The bogus myth that the names were chosen out of spite is not helpful to your cause. As said before, call the school Stuart. How many kids even gave a thought to that that attended the school? When did Moore become so outraged over the name?

There are some serious concerns to address in the meantime - budget shortfall; now about $27M as it appears that $15M from increasing class sizes will be endorsed - Superintendent selection - Auditor General selection - Contracting issues - pension issues...

However, it wouldn't surprise me to see the 'liberal activist' members of the Board utilize similar tactics to those employed with Policy 1450, the Board statement on diversity and the Meals Tax - namely, to rally partisan support and make motions without seeking or gaining broad consensus.

The only thing that will slow them down is concerted, coordinated community activism. They respect voters. But you have to organize about 25,000 to balance the FCPS employees...

What do you mean $15m from increasing class sizes will be endorsed?

See the Superintendents Potential Reductions pdf (here: http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/goto? - go to Meetings, choose April 24th 2017, choose Agenda, on left bar scroll down to 4.02 'FY 2018 Budget' and click, then scroll to bottom and choose the pdf document titled 'Supintendent's Potential Reductions..." to find the list of proposed actions to address the Budget deficit - excerpted below.

How about cutting some deadweight on the administrative staff in FCPS. That would work for me. Maybe they can change the name, get rid of IB, and start a whole new chapter for the school.

It doesn't much matter whether the school's name was chosen as a deliberate affront to blacks or was just chosen by a group of white men who didn't appreciate its effect. It still celebrates a Confederate general who fought in defense of slavery, in an area where Union troops were also stationed nearby. Go into the black neighborhoods off Lacy Boulevard and see if they'd prefer another name.

Over the years, FCPS got rid of much of the original Confederate insignia at the school, and now it just needs to change the name as well. If there is any "myth" here, it's that no one took offense at the name before Julianne Moore and Bruce Cohen did. They simply launched a platform that allowed thousands of others to express their sentiments.

A classic example of why there is so much waste in the FCPS system (and why liberals will continue to lose elections).

Actually, Trump's idiotic remarks today questioning why the Civil War was fought help ensure liberals will continue to be elected in Fairfax and other jurisdictions with well-educated residents. This controversy could have been avoided had prior officials thought harder and pandered less.

The right-wing conservatives are fine with name changes, as long as it's something like "Let Girls Learn."

On a different matter, the School Board has a closed meeting today to consider a candidate as the new Superintendent.
