ROFL Thanks for the laugh. My granddaughter who is bi racial knows how to do the booty bump. Her GREAT Grandmother taught her how. My what a crime. I am sorry but I think OP needs to lighten up as well. Good possibility she learned a perfectly *clean* dance but to you it looks like the booty bump. Geesh, get over it already

she's 3 for crying out loud! how old is your grandchild?? If she is a preschooler shaking her booty, I would hate to see what she'll be doing at 13.

I really do think that at 3, kids shouldn't be sticking their bootys out period. call me a prude, but I want her to be inocent and sweet for as long as possible. I find it quite sad when I see little girls acting and dressing like obnoxious teenagers.

I really think it is a big jump from dancing to acting/dressing like a teenager. Your kid just sees the dancing as something fun, silly. Behaving with a bad attitude is something entirely different.

I think there is a cultural difference of opinion here. In Latin America it's perfectly normal to learn how to move everything from a very young age. Here, it's shameful.

100% agreed. FWIW, my daughter learned how to shake her booty from ME..and I am as white as can be. It isn't like I'm teaching her how to be a hooker or something...

I personally agree its not appropriate - but bottomline is that we all know that some parents would find this behavior inappropriate for a 3 year old. so the teach had no business pushing it on an impressionable child. She had extremely bad judgment.

I think the child probably has no idea that adults could react in such a non-innocent manner - the dance - be it hokey-pokey or booty-shaking - unless it involves suggestive movements or language -- is not what makes the dance non-innocent - it is the "horrified" response of parents to an innocent act, imho.

I'm really sorry that I watched that. Horrible.

My two-year-old loves the song Shake Your Booty! And she likes to dance! I never knew it was something shameful!

Hey, at least your daycare center doesn't strap toddlers into their chairs when they act up.

I would not be thrilled with this either. I did not like how DD was coated in makeup and glitter hairspray for her ballet recital either. The teacher thought it was adorable most parents found it disgusting and dropped ballet. I can't stand those Libby Lu places where little kids are dressed up in very age inappropriate ways. They are little kids and there is way to much media pressure for kids to try to be adults. I would not mind the hokey pokey but shake your booty is a little different.

Libby Lu went out of business! Yea!

Stage makeup is used to accentuate facial features for stage performances, because the audience is a significant distance away from the performers. Glitter can be a visual effect under the stage lights, especially if it is one of the mystical Swan Lake-type scenes. It's been part of the ballet, since, well the beginning of ballet. Jeez.

But the teacher should know this could happen (that some adults might find it inappropriate) so I think it does show a little bit of a lack of professionalism among the staff.

OP - I just couldn't see that happening at the preschool where my 3yo went last year. Although, I could definitely see her learning it off one of the other kids (with older siblings)!

Right and Texas toddler pageants build character. This is 9-10 3 year olds dancing in a room five feet in front of their parents. The makeup and amount of makeup was disgusting. They looked like little prostitutes and there was nothing mystical about it. The kids didn't even like the make up but the teacher kept telling them how beautiful they looked in it. Ballet for 3 years old should be about dancing.
