My 11 year old son loves series books (I think because when he gets into a book, he doesn't want it to end). This past year he's enjoyed these series: all of Rick Riordan's various series, re-reading Harry Potter (I think kids could re-read them every couple of years and pick up new pieces to the stories), Divergent, The Immortal Nicholas Flammel, Alex Rider, The Giver and follow up books, Hatchett and follow up books, Gregor the Overlander, The Unwanteds, Ranger's Apprentice, and some series about Disney after dark (I realize that sounds weird!). He even likes nonfiction cut from the series mold - Genius Guide to ___ (Presidents, geography, etc), the interactive history choose your own adventure books, Guts and Glory, Horrible Histories.

He's got a stephen king novel - he's read 2 others. Not sure he's _really_ reading it though- reading has slowed down a bit. Need to pick it up again. He read the first in a series about cops in NYC - a murder mystery? He said he liked it. ugh. He's always been a good reader but i know it's tough getting them to read through the teen years. I was thinking about classics - animal farm, lord of the flies - anyone been through this?

The one by Jonathan Hennessey. Also, the graphic novel trilogy by John Lewis, et al., about the civil rights movement has excellent reviews. I just bought that box set for DS.
