Merlin Magic sleep suit for naps?

Anonymous
My kiddo had a strong startle reflex until he was about 4 months old and I know he's not alone in that. The Merlin really helped him sleep. We stopped using it at about 6-7 months cold turkey and it was fine. I can't imagine putting a 1 month old down in the crib/bassinet with nothing on - no sleep sack, no swaddle, nothing. Sounds like a recipe for falling asleep and then waking up crying every 5-10 minutes when the startle reflex kicks in.

We just started using the Merlin suit for our 4 months DS. It works great for overnight. For naps, we have to put him down in the Merlin suit before he gets overtired. Once he gets cranky, he would fight sleep no matter what. From my observations, it does not keep the baby from moving--DS still moves his arms, sucks his fingers, kicks his legs, and shake his heads. I actually looked at the patent directed to this suit, and the idea is, as stated in the patent claim, "configured to provide weighted pressure to at least one proprioceptive target point of an infant's body to reduce neurological reflective twitching or habitual waking patterns of an infant, thereby improving the quality and duration of sleep of the infant when sleeping in a supine position." It does not necessarily mean to inhibit body movements like swaddles.
