Tornado Warning how did your school system act?

I was at my kids' school in the main office by coindence when it occured (FCPS elementary). The kids were told to get down and cover their heads while the warning was going on. The kids who were in trailers were brought into the main building immediately. The entire staff was awesome. Completely cool and calm, and this was in Western Fairfax where there was a lot of rain, hail, and downed trees. Some of the younger kids were pretty upset and the teachers did an excellent job reassuring them.

This is troubling. Fairfax county had a tornado warning and your school should have responded.

+1

My child's elementary school moved all kids and adults into the hallway and into the gymnasium.

My MCPS ES student said they had a "drill" but also said they had to spend 20 minutes in the hall with their heads down and arms over their heads, which was "a pain". Sounds about right to me.

That's what I'm starting to think. I don't know why we didn't hear anything.

Our FCPS did nothing at all. We are under renovation and the kids stayed in their trailers

The tornado warning covered only a small part of FCPS (the western areas). I know because I'm in it. My child's school had an announcement over the loudspeaker that they needed to go into storm mode or something to that effect (my 5th grader isn't great with details).

I doubt the kids in unaffected areas needed to go into tornado drill areas. I mean, if they really wanted to go ahead and do the drill just because, fine. But you really only need to activate your response in affected areas.

23:45 again - they also brought the kids from the trailers inside. My child seems to think they were in for a good portion of the afternoon, because of a flood warning?

The warning was not for all of Fairfax County. It was mostly Chantilly, Centreville, Herndon, Reston some of Great Falls and some of Vienna.

Same for Catholic school in Fairfax County.

No no no. If your kid stays in a trailer for tornado or fire drills, this is one thing I'd raise holy hell over. Totally unacceptable. Those trailers can absolutely be blown around in high winds and are certainly not as fire safe as a brick building. This is not a joke and should be taken very seriously. This was an admin failure and gross breach of safety protocol.

No, at not troubling because the school NEVER HAD A WARNING. I would know because I'm an administrator in an FCPS school in Alexandria.

OR maybe this FCPS school was in a part of the county that did not have a warning. Did you bother to read 00:05's post?
