I guess the taxpayers picked up the tab for travel and lodging if they stayed overnight. |
Teachable moment? Absolutely. Don't say someone has acted "stupidly" when you don't have the facts!
|
Hear the silence? That's the sound of the President's poll numbers plummeting over this, most recent, blunder. Who needs a poster child... |
I, for one, am not going to look at this outside the narrow confines of what it was. A discussion to diffuse a situation, where everyone could learn.
You're not going to lure me into a discussion of the right or the left, the neglect of a financial crisis or choking on pretzels. I'm not going to speculate about plummeting poll numbers, or hidden motivations for the conversation. I'm keeping it just where it should be: a situation with intense feelings on both sides mitigated with a conversation over beers. Squawk all you want. I'm not going there. |
The peace table was a joke. It was a contrived diversion from the fact the president made a statement without knowing the facts. It showed that he too is inclined to pre-judge, at least without a teleprompter. Do you think Obama actually drinks Bud Light? |
Oh, you're one of those Teleprompter conspiracy people. Run to your TV. Hannity's on, and I hear he's going to make out with Ann Coulter. |
The fact was that the police acted stupidly. Obama got it right but backpedaled when he got a negative reaction. It was a stupid idea to arrest Gates when he was no danger to anyone and it all just led to huge distracting controversy. The police need show more self-discipline. Just like anyone who has to deal with members of the public who get obnoxious sometimes. I can do it. Why can't Crowley? |
The "fact" is that Gates was arrested. It's your "opinion" that they acted stupidly. It's my opinion that when the police show up at the door it is not the best idea to call them names. But if I had all the facts I might be able to agree with you that Crowley acted stupidly in this situation. I would agree that there is often a self-discipline issue and would go further to point out that there is also a power issue that can be abused. The point I was trying to make is that I do not want a president who rushes to judgment based on preconceived notions without knowing the facts. That is the teachable moment for Obama. |
He's also a trained lawyer who should know better. |
