Little Theatre of Alexandria is lower cost. http://www.thelittletheatre.com/

they are community theatre, not professional theatre.

So what? There are some real gems in community theater.

Try KAT in Kensington.

I'm sure there really are some good things in the realm of community theater, but in general, there is a difference between professional theatre artists who dedicate themselves to the field and those who do it as an avocation.

Not always.

Hence, the higher costs. People who dedicate themselves still need to pay bills in a high COL area.

I go often to Round House and Studio theater. Unfortunately usually alone since I had my daughter.

Love Arena Stage. Saw Dear Evan Hansen there before it went to Broadway

Said the person who made $4,200 in the "professional theatre" last year and $27,000 working at Peet's Coffee.

Check out the mosaic at the Atlas. Really thought-provoking interesting performances and more affordable than some of the bigger companies.

I don't go often because of the cost, but I saw Fun Home at National Theatre last week and it was superb.

I've used GoldStar a few times and have gotten great seats. Since you can't pick them ahead of time, I was a little concerned, but it's worked out fine. I think GoldStar has some discounted Fun Home tickets.
