Would you expect lunch? Birthday party 1-3

Anonymous
Just tell people on the invitation so they can plan accordingly. My 3 year old frequently doesn't eat lunch until 12:30 or 1 so I would be wondering. May depend on the age group, though.

How old are the kids?

Who are all you people that have no hosting skills that we have to have this same discussion on a monthly basis? You put out food for guests at a party. Pizza is easy, but it can be other things, and even lots of finger foods as long as it's not just a lot,of sweets - some savories, proteins (Cheese, mini hot dogs, corn dogs, meatballs, etc), and some fruit or vegetables. If you have a ton leftover, have things that you can make a meal from later.

And if the kids are smaller, yes you have to feed the parents too if they are there.

I expect a $50 gift for my child from you.

Well that's the difference between you and me. I serve great food for all of my guests, and I have no-gift birthday parties. Enjoy your gift grab, and congratulations on saving a few bucks on food.

If you don't want to do pizza, just get those mini bagels and cream cheese. We've done that with fruit, veggies, and cake. It worked fine for the party we had... it was 2-4pm time frame. Kid that were hungry had enough to eat, but it wasn't a typical pizza lunch.

Say "snacks and cake" and I wouldn't expect lunch. Remain silent and I'd expect more: heavy snacks or pizza. How many kids?

The only time I would expect it would be a family party at home where parents are expected to stay, and there isn't really any other entertainment. A kids only birthday party at a party place...wouldn't expect anything but cake unless it was a definite meal time.

Meal always, whether they eat it or not. Don't be cheap. It's gross.

If it takes an hour to drive there, then I would expect pizza.

1:00 is after lunch and 3 is nowhere near dinner. You need to have snacks (not ONLY cake) but pizza is not needed.

Ha, this is very funny and very true- I'm Italian and this is definitely spot on. I find "ethnic" people tend to have a lot of food available.

But I would not make assumptions about a 1-3 party being served lunch.

This, always have food. Not everyone eats a standard meal time.

I would assume that there would be lunch. I wouldn't mind at all if there isn't but every party we go to at whatever time serves pizza/full meals.

+1. It's mind-boggling how often this question is asked. If you have guests, you feed them. Plain and simple. Did your mothers not raise you right?

Often I do spend that.
Always over $40
