Dyscalculia -- Effective Strategies?

Anonymous
Some people responded here that once they put their child on ADHD meds their dyscalculia disappeared. Unfortunately, we've already tried that and even with an IEP, DD is still struggling with math. Other suggestions?

Definitely consider a neuropsych. I was convinced DS had dyscalculia, but the testing showed that his issues are with retrieval and working memory and mild ADHD. We've tried medication and there has been some improvement but I'm not sure it's due to the medication. His school encourages the use of Xtra Math so he does that on the iPad in the evenings. The constant repetition has helped.

Dyscalculia is separate from ADHD. Sometimes they are co-morbid, but you can't treat it with ADHD meds.

I would suggest tutoring. Maybe try ASDEC.
