That's not true. Ashes can be distributed outside of a full mass. There is s shorter service done instead.


Some do just Liturgy of the Word.

US Conference of Catholic Bishops state "If the blessing and distribution of ashes take place outside Mass, it is appropriate that the Liturgy of the Word precede it, using texts assigned to the Mass of Ash Wednesday."

I'm episcopalian and the children's service at church is right at my kids' witching hour, specifically the baby's, but I'd like to participate with them in some regard. Am I allowed to go to a Catholic Church to receive ashes if I'm of a different denom? Only the communion rule applies, right? That's convenient and right by my house...

Yes, that's correct. You're always welcome to anything but communion. (I think you can even go to confession, if you want....).

On the website it says liturgy of the word and ashes at 4 PM. How long should I plan for?

Falls Church Anglican had ashes at noon (no Catholic mass). Also will tonight at 6:00 p.m. (without communion) and 8:00 p.m.(with communion) this evening at The TFCA Ministry Center is located on the lower "C" level at
6565 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church, VA 22042.
