| My son also has pneumonia and despises the liquid medicine. He would prefer pills. He has pretzels and TruMoo next to him (needs something strong to mask terrible taste), as soon as he swallows, he eats the pretzels and drinks the milk and will only breathe out of his mouth. Thankfully, tomorrow is the last day! |

Chocolate icing - hide pill inside
If on amoxicillin, ask for chewables |
| You can ask the pharmacist to add flavoring. If he likes chocolate get the chocolate flavoring added. They say liquid antibiotics for kids comes with flavoring But they don't put enough in to mask the bitter taste. Ask them to add more- it is only a couple of dollars extra. |
| I don't know how much it would cost, but a compounding pharmacy can do some amazing stuff--patches, lollipops, quick-dissolve strips, creams you put on skin, different flavorings, etc. Grubbs is the one in DC I know best. |
| I have a son with some Sn who is also an incredibly picky eater. He also has a few severe allergies. I have resorted to putting Benadryl in pancake syrup before and having him drink that. It works for him. I have done choc milk too but sometimes he doesn't finish it and it is bad not to get the whole dose at once, so hence the pancake syrup. I know it is sugary but desperate times call for desperate measures....hope your son feels better soon. I have had to hold mine down and force the issue before for his physical health during an allergic reaction, and it sucks. |
| OP here, still struggling. Today he threw off his nebulizer as he was coughing and screamed "I just want to go to sleep." I'm going to call the compounding pharmacy near me tomorrow. That's a great idea. The Drs aren't too concerned because they say he is sounding better and breathing better, but if he get worse, he will get a trip to the hospital. To top it off, both my DH and I are sick too. We're a house of misery at the moment. |
| Good grief! Hang in there OP! I hope you are all on the mend soon. |

I'm so sorry OP. It sounds like an awful week.
I'm glad if the docs think your son is making progress though. That's something. I hope you all are in a much better place soon! |
