Am I being a jerk, or are they unreasonable?

Agree with this. Treat people how you want to be treated - be a courteous neighbor, and you will hopefully get it back.

Complaining about flushing the toilet is absurd, but non-essential activities after 11 that create noise? You're not a good neighbor.

Demand that the landlord replace the offending furnishings (toilet, garbage disposal, washer) with more modern and quite models.

OP here - it's the sound of the water going through the pipes, not sound from the machines themselves. We can't heard the washer running on the floor below, only the water going through the pipes.

I'm about to go in front of the board myself to explain our noise. We have floor to floor carpet in every room and padding underneath We have never used garbage disposal or dishwasher late at night because we know how loud they are- we have other neighbors.
If I were you, I'd ask for newer appliances to be installed, they make a big difference. The 60s toilet my upstairs neighbor has takes over minute to fill and I feel like I'm under waterfall she flushes it.
My downstairs neighbor calls security day and night. Latest one was 3pm. He said that somebody was running and he was on a conference call. I was actually vacuuming but he couldn't say that, could he.
Have them prove that you are loud, not just that they hear you.
I don't think you are completely innocent though, because you have no reason to run the appliances that late at night. Not even with a newborn.

They are unreasonable. Complaining about the sound of water running through the pipes is just ridiculous. Make sure you're compliant with the floor coverage requirements in the condo docs and live your life. Shared walls = shared noises.

You have every right to go to the damn bathroom whenever you want. That's beyond absurd.
A stomach bug, run the laundry. But regular usage of the laundry after 11 pm? Don't do it, it's obnoxious, especially since they've told you they can hear it and it bothers them. You can and really should wait until morning to run the washing machine. I don't even run the washer in my SFH that late because it's under my daughter's room and I don't want to make extra noise.

11pm? Come on. You are being unreasonable. Washer in the evenings and flushing? Not after 9pm, I'd say. I had an infant all of 2016 and while I did laundry daily, you can let the spit outs and the poo clothes just soak in the sink. No need to do laundry immediately. DH says he hears the flushing going on in the upstairs bedroom, if he's asleep one floor down in the guest bedroom. So I don't flush if I get up at night.

Idk how loud 6 year olds can be, my eldest is still 4. But I do have a friend who had your situation, neighbors tapped their ceiling complaining about the 5 year old boy being a boy upstairs. She moved out and bought a house. Fortuitously this happened in 2009 and they bought their big house at such a great bargain when prices had hit bottom.

Do you really need to flush late at night? If it's yellow, let it mellow. Saves water and helps the environment. No reason to flush for every pee. Be quieter and realize you're infinitely louder than you think when you have kids, one of whom you say is clumsy.

They're obnoxious. Only run the washing machine and dishwasher until 8 PM. If there's a poop blowout or vomiting, go ahead and do the rare late night load of laundry. Flush the toilets whenever you need to. Make sure you have rugs or foam kids' mats on most of the flooring.

It sounds like an unfortunate set up, but they need to recognize this and move.

They would go bat shit crazy if they lived under me. I vacuum at midnight, play music loud, raise the garage door all day and night, heavy walk, flush a lot, sometimes I move furniture not to mention hammer at night.

If I pay rent, I do what I want.

Ya know, some people do shift work. They should be grateful you don't. Maybe the next renters will make them wish you were still there.

I think you're both unreasonable:

Them - the complaint about flushing toilets
You - the Roomba (come on, OP!)

This is condo/apartment living. It is how it is. They need to get over it. We had horribly loud neighbors above us when I lived in DC-it is just part of that life. If they want absolute silence they can get a single family home.

both....the roomba is not nice, the toilet flushing complaint is whack

If someone is sick, ok you need to do a load of laundry. Not on a regular basis though. You do not need to run the Roomba late at night. Flush the toilet when you need to flush the toilet.

Every damn thing on that list is bullshit. If you live closely to others u have to be able to block out or even find comfort in the regular little noises. I had a neighbout w a piercing call yell to wake up her husband every am at 500. And I never minded. Arnold was up at 5 and I would roll over and go back to sleep. No big deal.
