| Don't forget that you are not required in any way to use the eyeglass shop at the doctor's office. Those are usually extremely overpriced and not any better in quality, although they'll try to tell you differently. |
My kid has both types ad hasn't worn the regular frames since getting the sports goggles. They have a built in strap, so they stay in place and the strap is not uncomfortable due to added bulk on the frames, they NEVER break or need adjustments. For a kid who once broke two pairs of glasses in one day this is huge! I have tried when I wanted him to wear something niceness for whatever reason to suggest the normal frames and he does not want to wear them several of his classmates wear the goggles full time. |
Pp adding that ours came from Walmart optical. Nowhere near 500. Closer to 100. |
Nope, he likes wearing the sport goggles all the time (well, he doesn't like wearing glasses at all but since he has to wear them this is what he prefers) - the sport goggles are brightly colored like all of his other clothing which is all UA/Nike. Note I said that *I* would prefer that he wear regular glasses while not playing sports. |

This is an awesome question and great advice from all. There's also another alternative which we didn't have available when my 5 kids were growing up on Capitol Hill - myopia control. I work with Treehouse Eyes here in DC area and many of our young patients end up leaving their glasses at home after they start treatment. Here's a recent blog post http://treehouseeyes.com/the-myopia-blog/kids-and-glasses-a-treehouse-eyes-case-study of a patient case study who sounds a lot like your 12-yr old, OP.
Thanks very much for letting me post here - and please feel free to message me if you have any questions. Many thanks - enjoy, Thom Thom@Treehouseeyes.com |
