Going to Richard Montgomery IB after Takoma Park MS

Is that possible to be in Blair SMAC program and taking English offered at Blair CAP?

Has anybody have these experience?

Not there yet (child at Eastern Magnet), but what are the Standardized Tests that are taken for RMIB? I can't find that info online (maybe I'm not looking in the right place), and if my child is coming from Eastern to RMIB, will it be a disadvantage to not have been in the MYP in Middle School?

There are no standardized tests other than IB exams taken during Junior and Senior years. Your child will be fine without having been in the MYP program. Mine came without it and it was fine.

Holy cow!! Is this right?

RMIB is a very selective magnet...

Only in 9th which really means nothing but more work for 2 years. By 11th pretty much anyone can get in and get the same diploma everyone else gets. The Magnets are more selective.

This is not possible because CAP is an interdisciplinary program, particularly in 9th and 10 grades. In other words, CAP English and History, and the CAP electives like Theater and Media Arts are inextricably linked in a way that makes it impossible for an outsider to take any one of those classes. However by the upper grades they are just regular AP classes.

They double the IB program in 11th. Only kids in RM for the exact grade can get in. So yes, it is very easy to get in. It drives the original 9th grader's parents INSANE, doesn't it? LOL

I hope that's not true. I can't think of a better way to kill the program that something like that. It will dilute the talent pool so much, it will be a meaningless program.

Any RM current student can get into the IB program in 11th grade if they have taken enough courses.... usually about 50 kids a year (so 1/2 of the initial accepted kids)

More TPMS kids go to Blair, but a fair amount go to RM as well.

And it's been that way for a good long time....

I'm sorry - I think my question wasn't clear - are there standardized tests to GET INTO RMIB - not once you're there? Like the tests the kids had to take for the MS Magnet schools?

No, all kids applying to HS magnets take the same exam.

There is a two hour test (1/2 math, 1/2 reading and logic) plus an untimed essay (usually takes 30 minutes).
