adjust for weather. Pomona's yield is higher than any other LAC. what do the rest of the LAC's have in common that Pomona doesn't? |
|
what's bowdoin doing right? Their yield is very strong considering they don't have the weather advantage of claremont schools and preftige advantage of aws.
Are they just targeting their applciation pool very well? |
Scripps has one of the lowest yields, and Mudd/CMC aren't that high I doubt weather plays that big a role |
Bowdoin is commonly known as one of the happiest LACs in the country. Unlike AWS, they provide just as good an education while also providing amazing amenities and food. They garner a lot of attention from Princeton Review and were ranked #1 LAC by Niche on student satisfaction. Pomona was second. Not very surprising they're 1 and 2 in terms of RD yield. That's the reason why Pomona has such a high yield as well. Weather plays a role, but it is as excellent as AWS while providing better food, a richer social life through the other colleges, a more interesting geographic background, and better facilities. Those factors make an impact for admitted students. |
word? Is it cornell level? swarthmore food SUCKS. |
| A huge percentage of kids at many of these schools (Williams, Bowdoin, etc.) are recruited athletes. 40%, I've heard. |
It perennially ranks in the top 5 in the country on that regard. Bowdoin's food is considered the best of any liberal arts college. And yes, both Swarthmore's and Amherst's dining halls leave much to be desired. Williams is pretty solid though, and they have three dining halls. |
Yes -- and they are all early admits, so the yield for that pool is 100% I'm not knocking either school -- or any other SLAC -- but admit rates and yields are very easily manipulated and every school plays that game. I know -- I worked in admissions. |
| And that large percentage of athletes definitely affects a school's culture. DD looked at Williams and was completely turned off by the focus on sports. The tour guide was a desultory lacrosse player whose primary interest seemed to be whether any of those in the tour group played a sport. |
| OP, where did you find this list? I am looking specifically for the yield at Grinnell College. I don't see it on your list, I know the acceptance rate was 17-18% but was curious about the yield. thanks. |
I compiled it. Unfortunately, Grinnell hasn't released their recent CDS, and enrollment data isn't in their profile either. |

I quickly compared to Stanford and Pomona's first year class is more diverse, barely so. But that's impressive given how Stanford usually ranks first among top universities for racial diversity.
I just found this too, and Pomona has the highest percent of Black students among ANY top LAC/university. https://www.jbhe.com/2017/01/black-first-year-students-at-the-nations-leading-liberal-arts-colleges-2016/ https://www.jbhe.com/2017/01/black-first-year-students-at-the-nations-leading-research-universities-2016/ What are they doing? I know the Forbes rankings garnered them a lot of attention, but Williams has been #1 for longer and that doesn't seem to have much of an effect on their admissions. |

Wow. Insecure much? |
Did you have a bad day or just feel the need to put someone down? |
