Travel company like Backroads -- but more affordable -- for active family trip

Particularly if looking abroad, can find places that are cheaper. It’s also cheaper to build an active vacation out of different vendors….like one vendor for a day of horseback riding, one vendor for a day of whitewater, one vendor for a mountain biking day. You are paying a company to research and put that all together for you.

Yeah this is what we do.

Maybe Vermont Bike Tours?

My husband has done tours with Western Spirit, and loves. Really affordable, and they have family trips for those with young kids. It is a tent camping, no toilet, rustic cold rinse shower experience which is not my thing, but the rest of the family loves it.

PP again. Oh, and Sherpa expeditions is now called walkers Britain. Another great, affordable company, but their main focus is self guided tours.

Can anyone recommend a company that has similar types of active trips where there are guides and they handle all meals and lodging, but might be more affordable than Backroads?

To keep the cost down, it would be great to find a company that has trips in the US (Maine?) but probably willing to travel further if needed.

Thanks for any ideas.

You can do this yourself! You can look at places like back roads, and look at the itineraries and then figure out where you’re going to stay and where you’re going to eat. Just a little advanced planning. If you want me interesting people try to find some situations where you could do that along the way or invite some of your friends to join you. It really just takes a little bit of planning and agility.
