Help with 7th grade electives

By 7th grade, I hope my kids can choose their own electives based on their own interests. It's not like any of these are bad options.

My dc would not understand why it would be a good choice in the long run to start a foreign language in middle school rather than wait til high school. They would choose easy classes like home ec and art, which are great, but there's room for some options that will help them and I'd like to guide them towards balance so they can also take more electives based on their interests in HS than they could otherwise.

My DC wants to take Latin but is worried if it involves lots of writing (which he is not too fond of). Any thoughts on if Latin has more writing compared to other languages say, Spanish?
