+1 We love the down to earth vibe at our non Big 5, Big 3 school.

Every school has people who love it and people who don't. - it all depends on the person and finding the right match.

I'm a current St. Andrew's parent, and our DS is doing well there. We didn't apply to the Big 3 schools for him because we live in Potomac and were happy with what St. Andrew's offered. (Although approximately 50% of SAES students live in Potomac 20854, the rest of the student body comes from everywhere in the DMV area, including Frederick, Capitol Hill, and Alexandria.) In some ways, it's easier to do the reverse commute to school like SAES in Potomac than to live out in the burbs and have to drive into a Big 3 in NWDC.

We think our DS could have hacked it at the public school (Churchill), but we liked the idea of a smaller school. We earn enough to pay tuition, and so we sent our DS there.

As for the differences, Bullis does have a much bigger campus than St. Andrew's which seems quite nice.

Hi above poster 10:14. Do you really think 50% of SAES lives in Potomac? I have never counted zip codes, but I would have guessed fewer -- maybe a 1/3 or so (not counting the lower school which will have a more local crowd I imagine). Just curious if that's your own guess or whether you have seen the stats or counted up using the directory.

I'm the poster who said SAES is 50% from Potomac. I recall either hearing that from an administrator or reading it somewhere. I didn't just make it up. Granted, that was for 2015-2016. Maybe the numbers are different this year?

It's actually less than 20% -- there's a zipcode breakdown in the back of the directory.
