We went to a horrendous out-of-town wedding together. The reception was not our cup of tea, so we planted ourselves in the hotel bar with some friends and got very, very trunk. We told each other that we loved each other for the first time in our hotel room later that evening. (He went first.)
We were friends for four years before we started dating; dated for only a couple of months before the "I love you"s; and have been married for ten awesome years. ![]() |
Heh. Drunk, not trunk. I swear I haven't been drinking today. |
I said it first. Maybe four days after our first date, and the day we slept together for the first time. I blurted it out. He said, I love you too!
We were friends before we started dating, but once we were dating it was real fast for us. I knew I was going to marry him by that day too, and he said the same thing to me, later. Ten years and two kids later, we are still ridiculously into each other. |
About 18 months I think? Really long time, I said it at 3 months. So it was definitely a thing by the time he said it and I run he knew his days were about to be numbered. I knew he loved me though, he showed it in actions all the time and words had ashtrays been hard for him. I wouldn't have stuck around if I hadn't known.
It was in the middle of sex and in kind of a crazy position and I immediately started crying and he followed it up with apologizing for taking so long to say it, all while still in position hahaha. Funny, awkward and a memory I wouldn't trade for anything. And of course I've never once doubted that he didn't mean it since he waited so long "to be sure." |
Always not ashtrays! |
We had been best friends for a year. Completely platonic. He got wind that I was hanging out with another guy and it just triggered something for him. He sent me a note saying he didn't want to mess up the friendship, but he thought he loved me. We made an awkward transition to dating--in retrospect we had loved each other for months. That friendship was a great foundation for our marriage--it's been 20 years now. |
He drove me home from school one day. I knew him maybe a month. Never had a date yet. I was getting out of his car and he said I knew I loved you the first day I laid eyes on you. You will feel that way too and we'll marry. ![]() 40 years together. |
Aww, these stories are so sweet. |
It was around 4-5 months into the relationship after we returned from a trip where I met his mother and stepfather for the first time. I was not expecting it right in that moment so after he said it I said something like, "aww, that's sweet." |
After we'd been hooking up for a month or two, freshman year of college. Together 15 years and married 6. |
OMG. It was like two weeks after we met, and we weren't even seriously dating, at least I thought so. I reacted totally wrong! I was like, how can you know something like that after so little time! Surprised he married me after that! |
OMG I can't remember! I asked him and he can't remember as well! But over 35 years we've said it every day. |
My husband first told me he loved me the evening he met my family for the first time.
It was particularly meaningful to me because my family had behaved TERRIBLY (bickering amongst themselves in front of him), and I was so embarrassed. It was almost like he was saying "Don't worry babe, you've got me." |
Omg, that's too funny. And kind of cringy to be honest. |
3 months. he was sitting on my lap and whispered it in my ear. |
